Andrew Gibbons | Showreel 2023

A good video is a good story

I love forming a connection with people and working with them to create content - to tell stories - and projects I have contributed to have gone on to win national awards here in New Zealand and Australia.

My insight into content creation is that content has to do more than simply address an organisational need (to generate engagement or leads), content needs to connect organisational need with audience interest.

I believe video and storytelling are intertwined. For a person to connect with a video they need to feel a sense of identity, there must be moments of tension, some drama, and likely a bit of humour.

Over almost 20 years, I have worked with National Broadcasters (TVNZ, Channel 10), International Corporations (Club Assist), SMEs, Online Business, and Start-ups (Typsy).

I have been a Graphic Designer, Motion Graphic Designer, Videographer, Content Producer, and for the last 4 years a Senior Video Editor with www.typsy.com

Career Outlook

I am looking for an awesome new team. What I need from a team is genuinely excellent people and the flexibility to be a parent.

I want opportunities to contribute, opportunities to develop my talents, and opportunities to celebrate success. I hope this is sounding like a good fit at this stage, if so then the next step will be to shoot me an email and lets talk about how we can work together.

An overview of skills

My Showreel Explainer’d

In this version of my showreel I have helpfully added a description beneath each section. For more context at these timecodes I did…

  • 0:05-0:28 | everything - scripting, shooting, editing, everything.

  • 0:28-0:35 | just the motion graphics (which is everything :-)

  • 0:36-0:49 | post production - editing etc.

  • 0:50-0:55 | everything again

You can find “full length” examples down the page.

“Fun fact, I make more than video content.

I write, draw, illustrate, design, craft stuff, play guitar, and drink coffee”
